An Oxfordshire technology company has developed a portable hand-held sanitiser for cleaning surfaces infected with Coronavirus Covid-19.
The SubZero RS-170 COVID-19 Rapid Sanitiser disinfects contaminated surfaces using ultra-violet (UV) light.
Because it enables widespread illumination it achieves greater overall decontamination, faster. Four times more powerful than other technologies means it significantly reduces the UV exposure time required to achieve the same result.
Standards-approved for use in buildings and transport, the bug-beating invention is expected to be taken up by the emergency services for ambulances and hospitals, as well as schools, offices, hotels and all types of transport, from buses and trains to aircraft and cruise ships.
Inventor and manufacturer, Integration Technology of Upper Heyford, specialises in making UV light curing systems for the print industry.
"We had just started work on making portable versions of our products for use in markets other than just print," says managing director, Simon Roberts.
"When the rate of spread of Coronavirus became clear, priority was immediately given to this medical solution.
"UV is non-contact and allows widespread coverage so you get greater overall decontamination, faster," Simon continues.
"This little machine can be plugged into a standard electrical wall socket and it's lightweight and simple to use."
