Phoenix build the Superloom

17-02-2014

Phoenix Dynamics have completed manufacture of the largest wiring harness that has ever been built in the company’s 20 year history. The Superloom as it’s become familiarly known measures in excess of 30 m in length and is close to 100 kg in weight. The multi-branched harness will be used by a leading Formula 1 race team to link the Car, Garage and Pit Wall and allows data to be transferred between them whilst being closely monitored by the race engineers. The Superloom is made up from a combination of Power, Data and Signal inner core cables that measure over two kilometres in combined length and is protected by over half a kilometre of outer tubing, a mixture of conduit and heat-shrink sleeve with bundle diameters reaching up to 80mm in places. Simultaneously built by a team of skilled technicians, the Superloom has taken over 150 hours to manufacture due to its highly complex nature and requires a 4 man team to manoeuvre the finished product.
