How Does The Humidity Click Board™ Work? The Humidity Click Board™ as its foundation uses the HIH-5030, a high-performance analog-output relative humidity sensor from Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions. The HIH-5030 surface-mounted, covered, condensation-resistant, integrated circuit humidity sensor factory-fitted with a hydrophobic filter allows usage in many condensing environments. It provides enhanced stability, accuracy, and response time over the entire humidity range of 0%RH to 100%RH with an accuracy of ±3%RH over a wide operating temperature range at the industry's lowest power. The Humidity Click Board™ is primarily developed for measuring the amount of water vapor in the air in industrial, medical, and commercial applications but can also be used in other application fields. The sensing element's multi-layer construction provides enhanced resistance to most application hazards such as condensation, dust, dirt, oils, and common environmental chemicals. The sensor converts humidity value into an analog output signal; more precisely, the user can process the output signal in analog or digital form.
The output voltage of the HIH-5030 can be converted to a digital value using MCP3221, a successive approximation A/D converter with a 12-bit resolution from Microchip, using a 2-wire I2C compatible interface, or can be sent directly to an analog pin of the mikroBUS™ socket labeled as AN. Selection can be performed by onboard SMD jumper labeled as ADC SEL to an appropriate position marked as AN and I2C.
The Humidity Click Board™ can operate with both 3.3V and 5V logic voltage levels selected via the VCC SEL jumper. This way, it is allowed for both 3.3V and 5V capable MCUs to use the communication lines properly. However, the Click board™ comes equipped with a library containing easy-to-use functions and an example code that can be used, as a reference, for further development.
