TRUSTED TIME SOURCES AND TIME SIGNALS
Selecting an input source for your timing system is critical to the accuracy and reliability of the entire timing system. Our capability means we offer an intelligent range of trusted time sources for your timing system.
Global Positioniong System (GPS)
A constellation of 24 satellites each transmitting highly precise time signal used generally to accurately calculate speed and location information from Earth. Coverage is global, although reception of information from three of more satellites is required for accurate positional information.
Low Frequency (LF) Terrestrial Time Signals
MSF-60
An LF time signal originating from Anthorn, Cumbria, UK. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington is the body responsible for its dissemination and the maintenance of all time and frequency standards in the UK. The time standard is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or BST (British Summer Time). Coverage includes most of north and west Europe.
Regular maintenance is scheduled throughout the year which means the MSF-60 signal will not be available during those times. CLICK HERE for MSF outages schedule.
DCF-77
An LF longwave time transmission from Mainflingen near Frankfurt in Germany. The time signal is CET (Central European Time) or CEST (Central European Summer Time) and has a range of about 2000km which covers most of Europe.
Other LF time signals include :
WWVB – US broadcast by NIST
HBG - Switzerland
TDF - France
Timecodes
ASCII Serial – RS232, RS422 & RS485
IRIG (Inter-Range Instrumentation Group) A, B, D, E, G & H
NASA range of timecodes
AFNOR
