CNC machining of non-ferrous and moulded enclosures
CNC machining of non-ferrous and moulded enclosures Using standard enclosures for a project brings advantages in reduced cost, no up-front tooling requirements and fast availability. However, any standard enclosure will have to be modified with holes for switches, connector cut-outs and other components. It makes good sense for the enclosure manufacturer to undertake the modifications because it reduces wastage and simplifies logistics - one source of supply. Vero Technologies' recent £100k+ investment in a precision machining centre enables us to offer XYZ axis machining to tolerances of +/- 0.1mm in all three dimensions. With a comprehensive design library of connector cut-out sizes, the ability to machine tapped holes, initially up to M18 in size, and the capability to machine large rebates for membrane keyboards, no requirements are likely to be too complex. As an example, the modified die-cast aluminium enclosure shown above required precision machining on both the lid and base, and also required alignment between selected holes in the lid and base to a tolerance of +/- 0.1mm. No easy task when the nature of two separate die-cast components makes it difficult to assign a constant datum point, but it was achieved.
